White House Allegedly Orders Copies of Obamacare Data Amid Fears Data Will be Erased

white house copies obamacare files

Researchers say the White House has encouraged them to make copies of official data related to the Affordable Care Act due to fears the new administration will erase it, according to a new report published in POLITICO.

The online political site reported that independent researchers began copying Obamacare data and documents on their own in a race to beat Trump’s inauguration day. Researchers claim to have received a boost from Jeanne Lambrew, the White Houses’s top health reform official, “who also sounded alarms the new administration might expunge reams of information from public websites and end access to data,” Politico reported, citing researchers.

The information being copied by researchers includes information about Obamacare enrollment and insurance premiums, according to Politico.

A White House spokesman told CNBC, “We’re not commenting on the Politico report.”

In a report released earlier this month, it was revealed that climate researchers were also making copies of official government data about climate change due to concerns relating to the Trump administration. Trump has said the idea that humans are affecting the climate is a “hoax” and promised to cancel the Paris accord on climate change.

Trump’s transition team also reportedly asked the U.S. Energy Department to release the name of employees who worked on Obama’s climate initiatives, which the department refused to comply with. “We are going to respect the professional and scientific integrity and independence of our employees at our labs and across our department, “department spokesman Eben Burnham-Snyder said last week. “We will be forthcoming with all publicly available information with the transition team. We will not be providing any individual names to the transition team.”

Trump has publicly vowed to repeal Obamacare and replace it with better health care legislation, but it not clear what the replacement healthcare plan would look like.
